Blake Aaron Richardson, 24, perished during a snowstorm in the wilderness of the Wasatch National Forest shortly after disappearing from his father’s home December 9, 2016. After 10 months of diligent searching by Salt Lake County Search and Rescue, Blake’s remains were recovered near Dog Lake October 5.
A memorial is planned for November 12, 2017, in Salt Lake City and inurnment of Blake’s ashes will be in the First Presbyterian Church columbarium, Fort Worth TX, in December. Details will be forthcoming. His was a fragile brain, made more so by the numerous head injuries suffered while biking, playing soccer and lacrosse and climbing rocks and mountains around the world. Blake was zealous about life, approaching everything he did with passion. Fiercely devoted to his family and friends, Blake loved science and philosophy, the written word and the human body, art and music.
After graduating from Skyline High School, Holladay UT, in 2011, Blake adventured to Thailand and France to climb there with professionals. He had served on the Leadership Team at Mount Olympus Presbyterian Church and was a leader among friends, known to instigate adventures and spur of the minute camping and climbing trips. A voracious reader and seeker of knowledge, Blake was a dedicated son, a loyal brother and charismatic friend.
Born September 17, 1992, in Salt Lake City, UT, to Barbara J. Boardman and Kim A. Richardson. He is survived by his parents and brother Ross Richardson and sister Alana Richardson. Donations in Blake’s honor may be made to Salt Lake County Search and Rescue and CAWS Community Animal Welfare Society in Utah.
